The Department of Economic Opportunity is awarding grants across the state to help municipal governments. State officials are hoping the funds will prime the pump for local economies.
The Department of Economic Opportunity is giving out 1.3 million dollars in grants this year. The size of awards varies, but most fall between 25 and 40,000 dollars. DEO officials say the money will support economic development efforts in nearly a hundred communities. Nearby counties Wakulla, Liberty, Calhoun, Gulf and Franklin will all get funding. The 75,000 dollars state officials are sending to the Franklin County Tourist development Council is the largest award of the year.
