The Knight Creative Communities Institute (KCCI) unveiled more placemaking murals at two Leon County middle schools this past week. Cobb Middle School held a big reveal for its mural on Friday, September 25.
Cobb students, along with members of the KCCI adult catalyst team, created the wall-sized image celebrating the school. That brought applause from KCCI Executive Director Betsy Couch during the ribbon cutting ceremony.
"Awesome! What a great job you did!!!" she shouted as the young audience cheered.
Cobb Principal Logan Crouch sees the mural as a very visible reflection of the school's pride in its neighboring community.
"This is showing them that we care about what we look like just like they do. And that we're a part of this community. And automatically that instills confidence and a pride into our students to say, 'Hey, this is our campus and we love it and it looks beautiful."
Opening in 1954, Elizabeth Cobb Middle School is one of the county's oldest schools. Much of its historic legacy is included in the new mural.
A second, locally designed and executed piece of artwork also adorns Nims Middle School on the city's south side.
