Tallahassee, FL – State Representative Dwight Bullard is following in his mother's footsteps. As Regan McCarthy reports, Bullard is setting his sights on his mom's senate seat for the upcoming election.

Senator Larcenia Bullard a Democrat from Miami has reached her term limit and now her son Representative Dwight Bullard, a fellow Miami Democrat, has filed to take her place in district 39. The house seat he holds now was actually his mother's and then his father's before him. But he says family legacy has nothing to do with his decision to run.

"My desire to serve the district isn't mired in the fact that my mom is the sitting senator. It has everything to do with my own desire to serve the people."

Representative Ron Saunders, a Democrat from Key West, has informally mentioned the possibility of running for the senate seat. As for Bullard's House seat, it looks like it will leave the family. Bullard laughs that he has a sister, but she lives in Orlando.
