Austin Rogers celebrated with his supporters at an election party in Panama City. Rogers was selected to Florida's second Congressional seat after a close race with Democratic nominee Amanda Marie Green.

Voters have elected Austin Rogers as the new representative for Florida's 2nd Congressional District. Rogers thanked God, his family and his supporters Tuesday during his victory speech. He says he looks forward to working alongside both parties in Washington.

“To my Democratic colleague Amanda Green. I would love to sit down with you and have a discussion," Rogers says. "You know, so many times she and I sat side by side, elbow to elbow. Whether it be in a debate or candidate forum or you name it. I'd love to sit face to face and hear about how I can best represent this district, how I can learn from you and hear your thoughts, your perspectives on how to represent the system forward.”

Rogers will take over for retiring Congressman Neal Dunn. He says he is excited to represent the area where he was born and raised.

“I think I represent the values of this district well, and that I was born and raised in the Panhandle," Rogers says. "I am a man who leads my family with faith, and wants to serve this district with faith.”

The new Congressman says he will spend his first 100 days in office focusing on ways to limit spending to help lower the cost of living. Rogers will also tackle the issue of overseas surrogacy through a bill he has already been working on with Republican U.S. Senator Rick Scott.
