The region's ancient and amazing Native American history is showcased in South Georgia this weekend

As America marks it's 250th year, the nation's Native American tribes celebrate a much longer history . A chance to experience that heritage and culture up close is happening this weekend near Whigham, Georgia.

For more than half-a-century, the Lower Muscogee Creek Tribe has hosted a combination Pow Wow of the tribes and a cultural showcase at its Tama Tribal Village. Event spokesperson Peggy Venable says the three-day event provides a fully immersive experience for everyone who's interested in the ancient ways of the country's original residents.

"It takes you back a couple of hundred years when you walk into the village. Pow Wow Village will be open the full time and we're going to teach the young, and not-so-young, our heritage and culture."
