Leon County has a total of 64 parks, both large and small. One of its smaller neighborhood parks is getting some significant improvements.
The park is on Tower Road in the northwest part of the county. Parks and Recreation Director Amanda Heighdecker says the people who use it were consulted on what they wanted.
"What they're most excited about is the addition of a basketball court here in District Three, something that are neighbors and community members have wanted for some time."
Plus new playground equipment for the smaller kids and improved lighting so the park can be used after dark. District County Commissioner Rick Minor sees it as a activity focal point to bring more neighbors together.
"It's really important to have a close park, a neighborhood park, close by where you and your family can go, maybe after work or school for a little bit. Maybe have a picnic dinner."
The Tower Road Park also continues the new trend of small parks to serve specific neighborhoods in the county.
