Hurricane Isaias is expected to make landfall between Pensacola and Destin, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Governor Ron DeSantis says officials are expecting the storm to make landfall late Friday.
“Folks who are in the path of this storm should know this is not going to be a tropical system, it's going to be a hurricane and do a lot of damage,” DeSantis said from inside the state’s Emergency Operations Center.
If winds reach more than 39 miles per hour I-10 will be closed, Florida Highway Patrol officials say. Trees and power lines are expected to be down in the region as winds and storm surge picks up.
Tornadoes are also likely.
Officials say storm surge along the gulf coast is highly anticipated all the way down to the Tampa Bay Area.
