After almost two decades of work, Tallahassee's Knight Creative Communities Institute - or KCCI - is winding down its work. Over the years, the group has placed dozens of colorful art works in public spaces throughout Leon County.

The official winding down of the initiative came Thursday, October 8 in the Cascades Park breezeway outside Argonaut Coffee.

"We have completed our mission...mission accomplished!" declared KCCI Director Betsy Couch as members and supporters cheered.

Couch said the organization has kept busy since its founding in 2007.

"Since then we have trained over 300 community catalysts. They have implemented more than 40 different major projects. And those projects have also generated a trackable impact of nearly one-billion dollars!"

Most of that in the form of private investment in areas KCCI targeted for placemaking projects. During its final year, Couch says KCCI will issue a "how-to" guide so other community groups can duplicate its success.
