A host of heavy-hitting endorsements have been announced in the races for Tallahassee City Commission.
Commissioner Jeremy Matlow unveiled a host of endorsements last week in his bid for Mayor. Those endorsements include Florida Democratic Party U.S. Senate candidate Angie Nixon and other local elected Democrats across North Central Florida. He made the announcement in a social media video.
Nixon, a progressive Democrat, pulled off an upset victory for her party’s nomination in August. When asked about her endorsement, Matlow said they both are running to bring change to different levels of government.
"I think we're very much aligned on we need to get government working for people again. Get away from the crooked deals we've been seeing, the special interests running the show, and that that's at all levels of government. But I think this is the future of the Democratic Party," he said.
Former candidate for Tallahassee City Commission Talethia Edwards also announced two endorsements last week. She's supporting former Democratic State Senator Loranne Ausley for mayor and Tom Derzypolski for City Commission Seat 3. Edwards performed well in the primary on Tallahassee's south side, areas that Ausley and Derzypolski both struggled with.
The candidates will be on the ballot during November's general election.
