Art by Apalachee Center clients provides deep insights and diagnostic power to help both clients and care providers

Artistic creativity can promote better mental health as much as medication in many instances. And even as a diagnostic tool, it seems what patients have to say through art can provide deep insights into their psychological and emotional conditions. That was a significant part of the message during the opening of a client art show at Tallahassee's Apalachee Center.

Along with the visual art works, there was also music. One Apalachee client rewrote the verses of the Bob Marley tune "One Love."

(singing) "We are all in this community together. Here to support each other on each one's journey. We may all be on our own set course, but we share the same goal of unity and love."

Apalachee Center Art Therapist Jasmine Blake is the exhibit curator. She says art provides insights to both care providers and clients.

"We're taking what's inside our minds and our bodies and we're putting it out on the page and separating it from ourselves. So then we can go back and analyze that and figure out what's actually happening beneath the surface."

The show's theme is "community and connections."
