Rep. Griff Griffitts, R-Panama City Beach, won’t run for reelection, he announced on Facebook on Thursday.

“Anyone who has served in public office knows the demands it places on both you and the people closest to you,” Griffitts wrote. “After a great deal of thought and prayer, I’ve decided that I will not seek reelection to the Florida House of Representatives. I believe there is a time to step up and serve, and there is also a time to step back and focus on family, business, and new ways to continue giving back to the community I love.”

Griffitts was a Bay County Commissioner before winning a seat in the House in 2022. His father was longtime Panama City Beach Mayor Philip Griffitts.

The move leaves an open District 6 seat ahead of the midterm elections. Qualifying for legislative seats starts June 8 at noon and runs to June 12 at noon.
