Leon County's longest-serving clerk of court lost his long battle with cancer on Sunday, April 19. Lang served Leon County for 42 years, hired as deputy clerk of court in 1959 and then as clerk of court from his election in 1992 until his retirement in 2001. His family posted the news of his passing on Facebook. Lang's good friend and fellow historian Bob Holladay remembered.
"Dave was the heart and soul of the Tallahassee Historical Society, among other things. He also was probably the most popular speaker on subjects historical of anybody I know."
Lang's ability to connect with an audience, Holladay recalled, was especially in evidence during the community's first History Festival five years ago.
"Dave came and he just started telling stories about Tallahassee and you had all these young children gathered around him, absolutely fascinated."
Funeral arrangements are pending.
