Students and community members left flowers as a memorial after the April 17 shooting at FSU.

Friday marks the anniversary of the tragic shooting on Florida State University’s campus that left two dead and several others injured.

To honor the anniversary, FSU’s Student Government Association will be hosting a space for reflection on Legacy Walk from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will also be a moment of silence on campus at noon.

FSU President Richard McCullough also released a video reflecting on the tragedy and discussing the events on the anniversary:

WFSU spoke with several FSU students about their thoughts heading into the anniversary.

Ava Osborne, an FSU junior, said the air is heavy as she walks around campus.

“It's kind of one of those things that people do talk about behind closed doors, but it's scary to talk about it. It's scary to think that it's been almost a year now, and I know it impacts everyone so much,” she said.

FSU Student Cecilia Eberly said she at an off-campus university building when the shooting happened but still thinks about the tragedy regularly.

“I got this necklace at market Wednesday the day before, and I wear it pretty much every day, just kind of to remind myself, like, what happened and everybody who was injured,” she said.

Their voices and others were including in this week’s episode of WFSU’s Speaking Of podcast.

The episode features student voices, interviews with librarians and archivists working to preserve the notes and objects left at memorials following the attack, and an update on legislation aimed at making universities in Florida safer.
