A few dozen vendors were on hand for the Tallahassee Flea Market Exchange opening. Organizers expect the number to grow significantly in the months to come.

Tallahassee's southside flea market finally closed last summer after suffering severe damage months before during a freak winter storm. But now the Tallahassee Flea Market Exchange opened over the Easter weekend on the city's northwest side.

The site is besides the North Monroe Street Motel 6. Flea Market Exchange organizer Eugene Larry says it and the adjoining property will be able to hold about 80 vendors, along with other happenings.

"We're going to be able to offer band groups an opportunity to come out and do live music, car shows, events that they need a large space to put on for the public. We'll be able to offer that as well in that 5-6 acres of development."

Larry says the preliminary plan will go to the city this week. Meanwhile, vendors, like Chris Hood hope the new flea market will provide a happy home for his laser engraved creations.

"Hopefully grow our business and support the community, enjoy talking to new people and hopefully provide a product and service that they want."
