Signing up a youngster for voluntary pre-kindergarten in Leon County used to be a challenge. But now the district has simplified the process and also tripled the number of children who can enroll.
Instead of the old process of making in-person appointments to register a child at the district's early learning office, Program Director Brooke Brunner said everything can be done online.
"They will either generate a new parent portal Focus account. Or, if they already have a student who attends a Leon County school, they're just going to add their pre-K child."
Not only has signup been simplified, but Brunner said far more students can now enroll in the county's VPK program.
"In Leon County this year, we only had enough seats for about 300 VPK students. And in this new model, that will increase significantly to more than 900 seats available."
