Leon High School has a new resource focused on helping students find their path after graduation. The school's College and Career Readiness Center officially opened Thursday, January 29.
Principal Scotty Crowe welcomed a crowd of project supporters to the new facility on the school's second floor.
"Today we officially launch, ribbon cut, grand opening if you will, for the College and Career Readiness Center. A long time coming. Give yourselves a round of applause!"
The center has been in the works for about seven years and was a big goal of the current School Board Chair Marcus Nicolas. District Superintendent Rocky Hanna said
the idea is to give students the best options for their future as they approach graduation.
"At a time when, unfortunately, many of our kids don't have those positive role models and advocates at home that can help guide them on that journey, our public school system is able to step in to help give them trusted guidance and they try to figure out what's next."
The new center offers both online and in-person resources to help guide those decisions. Hanna said the Leon center is a pilot for what he hopes will spread to all the district's high schools.
