The area on and around downtown Tallahassee's Adams Street is often a lively nighttime destination for young people. But the mostly student partiers sometimes get out of hand, prompting a concerned response from local property owners.
The meeting of area businesspeople and law enforcers was called by political advocate and consultant Barney Bishop.
"This meeting is about young adults who are having a good time - and we want them to have a good time - but we want them to be safe so nothing untoward happens to them."
But sometimes those young people party too hard, which results in public vomiting, urination, and even property damage. Two downtown bars, Clydes and The Warehouse, are managed by Yonathan Alem. He says it's impossible to police patrons once they leave the premises.
"We do everything in our power to put our right foot forward and show we're active and healthy neighbors in this community."
And Leon County Undersheriff Ron Cave says one group is missing from the discussion.
"A critical component to this is making sure the universities and college are part of this solution and they want to be."
More meetings on the topic are planned.
