A Tallahassee law firm is giving prospective future lawyers an in-depth look at the profession. The Ausley McMullen firm recently hosted nearly 20 young people for its initial day-long "Law and Leadership" session. Among the presenters was Marty Sipple, a firm shareholder and part of the leadership team. He explained the event's purpose.
"To try and give them some stuff that they don't learn in law school. A little more of a practical viewpoint of the law and what it means to be a day-to-day lawyer. Hopefully that will inform their decision about their career before they sign up for law school. So we're trying to point them in the right direction."
Another crucial part of the program, he said, is to show those considering a law career how important that job is to society in general.
"The way people used to resolve disputes was walk 5 paces, turn and fire. This is a MUCH better way to resolve disputes the way we do it in America. So we always need problem solvers in a civil way to resolve disputes."
Besides hearing from firm partners and associates, the students also visited the courthouse, spoke with one of the judges there and did a deep dive into the many specialty areas of the law.
