In recent years, Big Bend Cares has focused on providing stability for community members who are unhoused - especially those with HIV/AIDS and people who are former offenders. Now those efforts have been rewarded with a multi-million dollar grant.

The money, from the Bezos Day One Family Fund of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez Bazos, totals $5 million. Big Bend Cares CEO Amber Tynan said it's not only more housing that the grant will make possible.

"Everything from healthcare to mental health counseling, employment readiness and case management, we want to ensure that we're creating stability, not only for our families in the community, but our community in general because we believe housing is healthcare and this gift helps us be innovative in that regard to do something truly transformational."

Tynan said the services made possible by the Bezos grant will impact families in her organization's 8-county serving area.
