A student at Nims Middle School was arrested Thursday for having a weapon on campus.
The Leon County Sheriff’s Office says a School Resource Deputy was notified that a 6th grader had a knife and was showing it to other students.
A search of the student’s backpack revealed an 8-inch steak knife.

On Thursday, November 20, a School Resource Deputy was notified that a 13-year-old Nims Middle School student in the 6th grade was in possession of a knife on campus and had displayed it to other students.
A school administrator identified the student, who admitted to having a knife in his backpack, and conducted an administrative search of the student’s backpack. The search revealed an 8-inch steak knife.
The student was arrested for possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
The student will also be disciplined in accordance with the Leon County Schools Student Code of Conduct. The Leon County Sheriff’s Office encourages parents and guardians to speak with their children about the consequences of bringing weapons to school and the importance of maintaining a safe and secure learning environment.
