A building at The Social Seminole Apartment Complex went up in flames last night. This is a student housing complex off Ocala Road.

Six people are reported to have non-life-threatening injuries.

It’s not known what caused the blaze or how many residents have been displaced.

Press release from the Tallahassee Fire Department:

On Nov. 19, at approximately 10:24 p.m., the Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Ocala Road. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames coming through the roof of a three-story apartment building.

Reports indicated multiple occupants were trapped inside their apartments on several floors. A second alarm was quickly called to bring additional personnel and resources to the scene.

With residents unable to evacuate on their own, TFD crews immediately initiated rescue operations. Firefighters were able to rescue two occupants from the second floor of the building, while six patients were transported to a local hospital for further medical evaluation.

Firefighters continued suppression efforts for an extended period, working with multiple units to bring the fire under control and prevent further spread. Multiple aerial trucks were set up during the incident. The fire was contained to the building of origin, and firefighters were able to save approximately half of the structure and its units. Crews continued to conduct a thorough search of the apartments and worked to extinguish remaining hot spots.

As a precaution, nearby apartment buildings were evacuated during the incident.

One firefighter sustained minor injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

TFD was assisted on scene by the Tallahassee Police Department, Florida State University Police Department and Leon County EMS. The American Red Cross responded to provide support and assistance to displaced residents.
