The Bond Community Health Center has opened a pharmacy at the corner of South Monroe and Palmer streets. The project follows the closure of commercial drug stores and comes amid concerns about dwindling access to pharmaceutical services.
Bond Community Health Center CEO Dr. Temple Robinson welcomed a large crowd of local elected officials and community leaders to Wednesday's ribbon-cutting.
"We are here today to do the official opening of Bond's second pharmacy, satellite pharmacy, YOUR pharmacy."
It's a place that Bond Pharmaceutical Director Dr. Zandra Glenn says is open to everyone.
"Please, encourage people to come. We want to take care of them no matter what kind of coverage they have, insured, uninsured, whatever their situation is, we want to be able to provide that service."
The loss of both a CVS and Walgreens pharmacies on the city's southside in recent years has made it difficult for many residents in the area to obtain convenient prescription access. Bond's YouRX Pharmacy will even have access after store hours. Password-protected lockers will be installed in the front of the building to allow patients to pick up their prescriptions when the pharmacy is closed.
