A major gift to the Lemoyne Art Center came over the weekend from the families that once occupied the Lemoyne headquarters on Gadsden Street. Modern members of those families were on hand as the building's porch was named in honor of Betty Ann Munroe Skelton.

Betty Ann's daughter Susan gave the gathering a bit of history regarding the old homestead.

"The first generation of the McGinnis family in Tallahassee built this home and moved in around 1855, 170 years ago. From that first generation until today, 7 generations of the McGinnis/Munroe family have stood on this porch."

And now that porch is named in honor of Betty Ann Munroe Skelton who died at the age of 90 in 2023. Lemoyne President Dan Taylor says the latest donation from her family will ensure the families' history and that of Lemoyne will be linked permanently.

"The Lemoyne is part of the heart and soul of this community and we're just thrilled to be here and will continue to be here a long, long time we hope."
