Kids and grownups had plenty of reasons to attend the Trunk or Treat happening.

The yard behind South Tallahassee's Old West Florida Enrichment Center was filled with kids and their parents on Saturday, Oct. 25. It was a combined Halloween party and a community resource showcase.

The Trunk or Treat happening was hosted by Leon County Government. Shington Lamy is the assistant county administrator.

"What we've done here as part of this event is to bring the resources to the community through their children and by holding this Trunk or Treat event combining candy with the resources that they need."

The City of Tallahassee, Children's Services Council, United Way of the Big Bend and United Partners for Human Services also took part. Event organizers say those local services may become even more important. That's because some federal assistance programs may be interrupted because of the ongoing government shutdown.
