Feline fans packed the Tallahassee Elks Lodge on Magnolia Drive Saturday. It was the yearly "For Cats' Sake fundraiser.

The event, complete with a jazz trio and lots of finger food, is first and foremost a silent auction. Feline Advocates of Leon County President Michelle Hartsfield says a record number of local artists donated their works to go on the block.

"One-sixty, 163. Yeah, it's been a huge support from the community."

One of those artists, well-know Tallahassee painter Ann Kozeliski.

"I donated a Chinese brush painting of a Norwegian Forest Cat."

The auction generated several thousand dollars to help care for stray and otherwise homeless cats in the area. Still, Advocates' President Hartsfield says the need consistently exceeds the resources raised for the cause.
