What began as a routine dog adoption event at a Tallahassee auto dealership on Saturday, October 18 quickly became an unexpected gift presentation to the Humane Society of Leon County.
After what seemed to be a simple group photo in front of the dealership, Proctor Subaru's Sarah Demont made this announcement to the Leon County Humane Society's leadership and volunteers.
"You guys do so much, we wanted to give you a new car!"
Applause and cheers erupted as a Subaru SUV, already bearing the Society's name and logo, drove up.
Society Past President Laura Johnson said the vehicle will greatly aid the organization's mission.
"It's a huge help to have a transport. So many animals move around to and from foster homes to other rescues to care and back. So we can't overstate the help it gives us to have this car."
The national Subaru organization is a regular supporter of Humane Society chapters, but the dealership says this vehicle donation was a purely local initiative. The move comes after the group’s previous vehicle was recently damaged in a crash.
