The Leon Humane Society is searching for many more foster folks as the number of homeless pets increases

"Theo," a very friendly adult tuxedo cat, was welcoming visitors to the Humane Society's open house.

The Leon County Humane Society threw a community party at its Timberlane Road Headquarters on Tuesday, Oct.7. There were plenty of people and snacks, along with animals looking for permanent homes.

The Humane Society's open house welcomed a constant stream of people, whether long-time supporters or folks just curious about the organization and its mission. And Society Director Lisa Glunt admitted that mission, to find forever homes for dozens of cats and dogs, has gotten harder in recent years. She's especially looking to recruit more foster families; many of whom become forever families.

"Fostering not only saves an immediate life by putting that animal in a space, getting it our of a shelter or unsavory environment, but you're also allowing yourself, your family and home the opportunity to see if it'll work. We love our fosters and do our hardest to spoil our fosters and let them know how appreciated they are."
