Tallahassee Commissioner and Mayoral candidate Jeremy Matlow kicked off his 2026 campaign at Proof Brewing Company on Saturday.
The event, which left the indoor area of the brewery standing room only, began with a performance from Mayday Parade lead singer Derek Sanders, a longtime friend of Matlow.
“I think if there is one thing we could use a lot more in this country it’s politicians who care for and fight for the working class and not just the wealthy elite,” Sanders said before playing several songs.

During his speech to the crowd, Matlow leaned into local populist messaging. He said he is welcoming support from anyone in Tallahassee who has the back of working people.
“Republicans. Democrats. NPAs. From the south side to the suburbs. I ask you, can we be a better city than we are today? And if your answer is yes, no matter your background. We need you and want you on this campaign,” he said.
Matlow’s aide, Ryan Ray, is chair of the Leon County Democratic Party. In the rest of his speech, Matlow shared his perspective: that city government currently only serves those with money.
“Believe with me that our best days are ahead. Believe with me that we don't have to be ruled by a handful of wealthy individuals. Believe that we can expand the arts and childhood wellness. Believe that we can combat homelessness. Believe that we can improve lives with targeted investment. Believe that Tallahassee can be the affordable shining city atop the seven hills,” he said.

Matlow is a local business owner but has publicly feuded with the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce and other local business interests since being elected to the city commission in 2018. Currently also in the race for Mayor is former state senator Loranne Ausley and civil rights attorney Daryl Parks.
