The U.S. News and World Report rankings of the nation’s best colleges are out, and WFSU has details on how Tallahassee’s universities fared.

Florida State University ranked No. 51 on the list, earning its highest-ever overall ranking among national universities, which includes both public and private institutions. That’s up three places from last year. The school also rose two spots to No. 21 among public institutions.

FSU President Richard McCullough said in a statement he thinks the rankings reflect the university’s commitment to academic excellence and research.

Florida A&M University is ranked No. #169 among national universities and is tied for No. #92 among public institutions. It’s ranked #5 among Historically Black Colleges and Universities and No. #1 among public HBCUs—a ranking FAMU President Marva Johnson said she’s encouraged the school has claimed for the 7th year in a row.
