Tallahassee is a finalist for a national live music grant

If Tallahassee is successful in its quest for the Levitt Foundation grant, local venues like the Adderley Amphitheater at Cascades Park could be hosting many more musical events in the future.

If Tallahassee is successful in its quest for the Levitt Foundation grant, local venues like the Adderley Amphitheater at Cascades Park could be hosting many more musical events in the future.

Tallahassee is one of 100 communities up for a grant from a national arts foundation. But whether the city gets it depends on how many people cast votes for the capital city through an online and text message campaign.

The money, which could total more than $100,000 - including local matching funds - would go to support a three-year series of major musical events in the winning community. Council on Culture and the Arts Executive Director Kathleen Spehar says it all comes down to community support for the Levitt Foundation grant award.

"So as many people voting as possible is what we need. You can vote if you live in Tallahassee, if you live outside of Tallahassee, if you live outside the country, anyone can vote for us."

The voting deadline is September 15.
