The annual Havana Wood Festival took place on Saturday, Sept. 6.

The event's vibe, with the help of the musical duo Hot Tamale, was about as rustic as you can get.

There were dozens of booths featuring wood workers of various kinds. One of the more unique was occupied by the Spring Creek Barrel Works, owned by Randy and Amy Greene of Tallahassee. Their specialty is creating almost anything out of genuine Kentucky whiskey barrels.

"We get a semi (truck) load delivered every once in a while of a couple hundred. And they come directly from the Kentucky distilleries," Amy Greene explained.

The Greene's then convert the barrels into any number of useful and decorative items. The Havana Wood Festival gives many other local artisans a chance to showcase their creations while celebrating the community's long connection to forest products.
