Young folks and their families enjoy one last summer break weekend in an historic Tallahassee setting

"Last weekend of summer vacation" events were everywhere in Tallahassee Saturday and Sunday. One of them was an old-fashioned field day.

A steady stream of kids and grownups was frolicking in the vast lawn behind The Grove Museum next door to the Governor's Mansion. Museum Curator Morgan Stulter says the lack of both rain and blazing sun made the occasion a pleasant one.

"We had some extra tents out just in case, but with the tree cover and the cloud cover today with a nice gentle breeze, it's been a beautiful sight all day."

Those who visited played various lawn games and took tours of the historic mansion. Dating from 1840, it was the home of the Collins and Call families, including Florida Governor LeRoy Collins and his wife, Mary Call Collins. The next big event for The Grove is the Winter Open House on December 6.
