Many thousands of people will be in Tallahassee the weekend of January 10th. They'll be on hand for the World Athletics Cross Country Championships at the Apalachee Regional Park just east of town.

Leon County organizers predict more than 1,200 athletes, officials and volunteers will be coming. And Visit Tallahassee's Genesis Leggett said thousands more, from near and far, will be on hand to enjoy the competition.

"Cross country is a huge sport globally. Us being able to host it here, and this will be the first time it's been back in the U.S. in over 30 years, we're really hoping and wanting all of our cross country runners and families from all across the country to come down and experience this event, because it's truly a once-in-a-generation event to be able to participate in or attend or just watch."

The county has already adopted a colorful logo to help market the happening. Other plans are focused on traffic control, and site preparation. The World Athletics Cross Country Championships happen the weekend of January 10th, 2026.
