The Tallahassee Museum's Swamp Stomp approaches its 50th year

Swamp Stomp organizers said the audience for Saturday's event was among the largest in history.

For nearly half-a-century, the Tallahassee Museum has hosted a celebration of down-home music called "Swamp Stomp." That tradition continued on Saturday, July 12.

All of the solo and group artists on the Tallahassee Museum stage played music with strong regional connections.

The connections were also personnel between the players and the audience. Here's Hot Tamale's Craig Reeder:

"It just really feels like a community when we gather here for this kind of music."

His musical partner, Adrianne Fogelin, agreed.

"Like your friends and family are here. It's wonderful! And we do get paid; we get a free (museum) pass for a year."

This was the 47th Swamp Stomp, which performer/organizer Del Suggs noted is a milestone in itself.

"Actually, it's the oldest continuous festival in this part of the country."

Although Memorial Day weekend's Florida Folk Festival in White Springs is a lot older, dating back to 1953.
