The Leon County Commission finalized approval Tuesday of funds to help boost affordable housing.

The commission is allocating $500,000 to help developers build projects for very low- and extremely low-income households.

The allocation came thanks in part to a push from the Capital Area Justice Ministry, or CAJM. The coalition is made up of 20 congregations across Tallahassee.

Commissioner Nick Maddox told the group during the meeting that their work is what got the project over the finish line.

“You all should be proud of your advocacy. You should be proud of your of your perseverance and the way you push for this,” he said.

Half of the money comes from the county general fund, with the rest coming from the Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency and the state.
