One of Tallahassee's oldest service organizations is the Junior League of Tallahassee. It's now celebrating 65 years, and it seems today's Junior League is quite different than that which came before.
One difference is the League's current president, Vicki Bradley. She's the first African American to serve as the local league's president since it was founded 65 years ago. She's also quick to note there are other changes.
"We've been able to see our membership survive and thrive because we've been so open to who we want to be part of the Junior League. And I think we've become more inclusive of the types of women that we want to help serve us. We're just looking for very service-minded people."
And Bradley says that can include women over 40, who used to be excluded from the Junior League ranks. She adds the group will continue its present major projects, such as the Kids' Boutique, providing kids with back-to-school clothing, shoes and supplies, along with the Big Bend Bites Initiative, feeding food insecure children. At the same time, Bradley says the organization will look to keep developing women as leaders in the community.
