Hundreds of seniors in and around Tallahassee could face the loss of some services provided by Elder Care Services of the Big Bend. The agency's Executive Director Josie Fliger said around $750,000 in federal funding is being held back
"Right now the Office of Management and Budget is impounding those funds, so we're reaching out to our legislators to ask them to persuade OMB to release the critical funding that's needed."
Fliger said the two AmeriCorps programs being cut help socially isolated seniors as well as some young people with disabilities with the impact being immediate and serious.
"So it's over 100 volunteers and then it's going to be hundreds of affected children and seniors that those volunteers serve."
She's urging those who know the benefit of the programs to contact their congress member and U.S. senators to urge their help in restoring the lost funds.
