A new park is being built right next to City Hall in downtown Tallahassee. Local businesswoman Verlonda Johnson is also a member of the Knight Creative Communities Institute (KCCI) catalyst team that imagined the new Bicentennial Square project.
"The lights that you'll see later tonight, the planters, the bike racks, these are just a part of the invitation to bring you here. But the families, the artists, the musicians, the storytellers, the small business owners, you are what actually bring this place to life."
The first phase of the park's construction was celebrated by city officials and KCCI members on Monday, June 23. Executive Director Betsy Couch says this was just the beginning of the 3-phase construction.
"What might look like small scale improvements, they really make a big change in terms of making a space more welcoming and inviting for all our residents."
Bicentennial Square is between West Jefferson Street and Tallahassee City Hall between Adams and Duval.
