Hundreds of runners and walkers were making their way through Tallahassee's Tom Brown Park on Saturday, May 3. They were raising money for the city's animal shelter foundation.
One estimate placed the number of Tails and Trails participants around 600. The courses ranging from a one-mile fun run to a half-marathon. Shelter Assistant Director Grayson Walters says the event generates significant foundation revenue.
"The Animal Shelter Foundation for those who don't know, they're the non-profit that supports us here at the shelter. So all the things that we don't have funding for - which is a lot - they can step in and help."
For the rest of the weekend, the shelter waived all pet adoption fees. All this was going on while the shelter undergoes a major rebuild of its dog kennels to provide better safety and comfort.
