More than 100 girls, their fans and coaches gathered at Tallahassee's Southwood community on Saturday, May 3. It was the finale of this season's Panhandle Girls on the Run program.

Girls on the Run Director Denise Howard couldn't have been happier.

"It was a fantastic turnout! The girls were able to showcase their star power out here in Southwood and it was a really great day."

Besides the 5k run, Howard says the girls learn how to set goals, overcome challenges and make positive impacts in their communities.

"We want to empower girls to reach their limitless potential."

The program has been going on locally for ten-and-a-half years. This Saturday's run was the 21st since Girls on the Run came to the region.
