A Tallahassee science teacher has won a national grant to bring even more experiences to her middle school students.
The teacher is Zulaika Shamshieva. She teaches 7th and 8th grade science at the Math and Science charter school. She's been lobbying the Washington, DC-based Society for Science to include space exploration in its grant award process. And this year, they did.
"It's called the 'Society for Science' grant and our students will investigate about space."
Shamshieva is among only 24 grant winners nationwide. She says most of her students come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Her $3,000 Society grant will give them many more resources for hands-on projects and real-world problem solving.
