Tallahassee's Bicentennial Year may be over, but the log cabin replica of the First Florida Capitol still stands at the west end of Cascades Park. Mark Carpenter, a descendent of a man who helped build the original structure, donated the lumber that made the replica possible.

"Tallahassee came to the capital; the capital didn't come to Tallahassee because when it was built there was nothing here. So loving Florida history, I thought it would be an interesting to be able to participate in building the replica."

But now the replica needs volunteers to greet visitors and tell them about the history behind the 1824 original seat of Florida government. The Friends of the First Capitol website has more information.
