Tallahassee's Independence Landing, a community for people with disabilities, has a new executive director. She’s kicking off her new job by asking community members for help with landscaping this Saturday, Feb. 15.
Barby Moro said the job offer from the Independence Landing board of directors came as something of a surprise.
"I spoke with my family about it and we decided, 'Yes!' In a lot of ways, it's a dream come true."
Moro had been on staff as director of operations and programs. Now, as executive director, she'll jump right in, asking the community for help planting around 50 trees and shrubs on the property this Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon.
"It's a major community initiative and we're inviting people to come on out rain or shine and help us put trees in these holes. We'll have snacks and drinks from Red Eye Coffee and the Independence Landing Bakery."
The project's partners include Sustainable Tallahassee, Native Nurseries, May Nurseries of Havana and AllPro Landscaping.
