The City of Tallahassee is remembering Dan Kleman, who was city manager from 1974 to 1994. One of those who knew him best is a former city government colleagues who was also a good friend.
The city's longest-serving Commissioner Debbie Lightsey was in office during Kleman's administration. Also she noted that relationship was cut short when others on the commission disagreed with Kleman and fired him in 1994. Lightsy says she didn’t get to work with Kleman long enough and she was sure she’s not the only one who feels that way.
"There's going to be so many people in town mourning him today. He meant a lot to many people for many, many different reasons."
During Kleman's tenure, Tallahassee nearly doubled in population, from 75,000 to 125,000 and more than doubled in land area. Dan Kleman was 79.
