Tallahassee has a new space for all kinds of creativity. We visited Saturday's opening of the "Req Room" (with "Req" pronounced as "Wreck") near the corner of North Monroe Street and Fifth Avenue in Midtown.

Applause greeted the grand opening of the Req Room on Saturday. Among those applauding was local musician Mike Stone.

"With the secondary addition of the Req Room and the possibility that it brings for not just music but all the artists in the area, it's great! And we're looking forward to being here and playing and hope folks come down here to North Monroe Street and both venues."

Carrie Hamby owns both the Req Room and the Blue Tavern next door. She sees the new venue as having more options than the Blue Tavern. Hosting such things as poetry readings and exhibits of visual art.

"Hopefully we'll have a different artist every month and have an opening kind of like this and invite more people out to see the space."

And it was a space that brought out a full house for Saturday's grand opening, which included a painting exhibit, poetry reading and a lively musical jam.
