During the media event at the Tallahassee Urban League office, Tallahassee Deputy Police Chief Maurice Holmes said there is good news and bad news in the latest numbers of guns stolen from vehicles.
“This year, from January 1 to December 3rd when I last counted stats, we’ve had 185 stolen guns. So it went down. 149 of those were unlocked. The anomaly in this is 36 were forced entry.”
Meaning, simply locking a vehicle with a gun in it isn’t enough. National Urban League President Marc Morial said the local campaign encouraging gun owners to remove those firearms from parked vehicles is a good start.

Morial was also in town to speak at Saturday’s FAMU commencement,
