When family troubles wind up in court, Florida law requires special guardians to look out for the interests of the children. We came upon a recruiter for more of these guardians over the weekend.

Dick Gordon was working the Second Judicial Circuit Guardian Ad Litem booth at Tallahassee Nurseries on Saturday, Nov. 16. He was able to speak about the program from personal experience.

"I have 5 children presently; 2 from 1 family and 3 - really 4 - from another family. One is a baby. I've been doing this here in Leon County for 3 years and I did it for 3 years in Gulf County before moving over here."

Gordon shared those and other experiences about the program with the nursery's Saturday shoppers. It's part of an ongoing outreach to bring more guardians and mentors into the lives of children who desperately need them.
