North Florida's regional scout chapter is marking 100 years. The Suwanee River Area Scout Council is celebrating with an open-to-everyone jamboree.

Bucklake Elementary student Gabriel Julio likes the more traditional scouting activities.

"It helps you clean the environment; it teaches you to be kind, friendly and helpful."

John Paul II 10th grader Isabel Coffman enjoys the life skills training scouting provides.

"Stepping up and completing projects. And leading projects in small groups. I like to take the lead. And managing my time better. I'm not very good at that."

And Ben LaBelle, now a scoutmaster in the council, was persuaded to get involved by his daughter who wanted to be a scout.

"Honestly, I was really happy to be able to share something that was such as important part of my youth with my daughter."

The Centennial Jamboree happens Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 until 4 on Chaires Crossroad near the Capitola Road intersection.
