Kids of all ages seem to love fire trucks. On Saturday, Oct. 12, there were lots of fire trucks along with the people who use them during Leon County's Annual Volunteer Fire Department Fire Truck Rodeo.

All kinds of firefighting equipment and volunteer fire fighters were on hand for the outdoor showcase at Tom Brown Park. One of the six volunteer units was the Lake Talquin Fire Department headed by Chief Steve May.

"Most of the time we are first on scene to all kinds of different disasters and we provide the extra support for the community."

A highlight of the annual event is the "Firefighter of the Year" award presentation. This year's winner, Kenny Ray Harvey, also hailed from the Lake Talquin Fire Department. But he wasn't on hand to accept it, as Chief Mays explained.

"He's deployed to Sarasota for the disasters down there. So he unfortunately missed out today. But he was aware of what was going on. Everyone had their phones and was calling him."
