Coastal Watches/Warnings and Forecast Cone for Storm Center as of 3:20 p.m. 9/23/2024

Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency in 41 Florida counties as the state prepares for the impacts of an incoming storm system.

At 12 p.m. on Monday Sept. 23rd, the National Weather Service said that potential Tropical Cyclone #9 “will continue to intensify as it moves northward over the eastern Gulf of Mexico and could become a Major Hurricane before reaching the northeastern Gulf Coast on Thursday.”

The NWS says there is increasing risk of life-threatening storm surge as well as hurricane-force winds. The path of the storm is still uncertain with projections ranging from the Tampa Bay area west through the Panhandle. The impacts could begin as early as Wednesday night and could last into Friday. Local emergency management officials are urging residents to continue monitoring the storm and updates, say that now is the time to begin reviewing emergency supplies and to start making plans.
